Today, we focus on Sofia from Papaya Pieces; a homemade cooking, travel and memories blog:
Where were you born?
Where did you spend your childhood?
In chronological order from 0-18 years: Indonesia, Singapore, Australia (this is where I spent most of my childhood), New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Brunei, Spain.
Where do you live now?
What languages do you speak?
English, Spanish, Indonesian, French, Catalan
When did you start blogging?
How did you decide on the name of your blog?
I wanted to make a blog strictly about food, which has since then evolved into a food + places blog. At that time, taking into account that it was supposed to be only about food, I did a brainstorming with myself and came up with Papaya Pieces to honour all the times I was in South East Asia and my mum would cut papayas into pieces and I really couldn’t stop eating them!
What was the title of your first ever blog post?
Gosh, I can’t remember… Probably something stupid like: Welcome to my blog. Some of my earlier posts got lost in my blog move from WordPress to Squarespace
What is the most popular post on your blog?
It’s a tie between a simple recipe for roasted pumpkin seeds and (ironically nothing to do with food nor travels) a post about the main font in the film The Grand Budapest Hotel.
What is your favourite thing about blogging?
Having met some of my blogging pals in real life and becoming very close friends with them. That is my most favourite thing about blogging
Other favourite things are: greatly improving my cooking skills, learning about photography, learning about programming,… it’s accidentally turned me into a geek! Another thing I like, sometimes when I’m feeling down and don’t want to continue blogging (I suppose I’m not the only person that gets that way), suddenly out of the blue I’ll receive an email from one of my readers telling me how I’ve inspired them to do such and such things. The fact that I actually inspired someone is a big pick me up and helps me continue ticking in the blogging world.
What is your proudest blogging achievement?
Having being able o reach and inspire people to do things such as: cook one dish or another, convert from never making jam into being a jam maker, listen to classical music, improve our fitness between blogging buddies.
Who are your favourite bloggers?
That’s a tough one! I suppose my favourites are the ones I’ve met and have become great friends with.
Do you prefer eating in or eating out?
Most of the times: in. Out only sometimes, when too lazy or need a treat.
What are the three things you always have in your freezer?
Ice cubes and homemade chicken broth. Even though I’ll often have bits and pieces of of whatever food in the freezer, I actually don’t like keeping things in the freezer. I’m a big fan of very fresh ingredients.
Do you remember the first time you flew in a plane?
No, I might have been less than 1 or 2 years old.
Where did you go on your last trip?
Probably Singapore or Malaysia, I don’t remember! lol.
Where is the best place you visited in 2016?
The Dordogne region in France.
How do you spend your time when you’re not blogging?
Working in my real job, cooking and playing the piano. I play miserable classical music, mostly by these composers: Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Brahms, Schumann and Chopin. What do you wish you had more time for?
Playing the piano.
What is the biggest fear you’ve faced so far?
I have a list of personal life changes for within the next 12 months. I’m afraid of not reaching them.
