In XOXO Collective, most of us have been blogging for years and in this post, Waz, Julie and Sanne tell us how it all started:
Waz: Like many other bloggers, I kept a blog through high school and college. However, I didn’t start my current food blog until I moved to NYC in 2011, and the original plan was to document my cooking and dining experiences for personal reference. Over the years, it has evolved to much more than a personal food diary and has been a part of my journey from flexitarian to vegetarian to vegan.
I’ve enjoyed blogging as a creative outlet, and I love how it has connected me with people from all over the world. Many of my online blogger and Instagram friends have become in real life friends too. That seems fitting as the name “Let’s Nom Nom” comes from the idea that food brings people together. One of my goals for 2017 is to expand the blog beyond food, and I sometimes wish I didn’t pick a name that was so food oriented.
Julie: I initially began blogging to connect with military spouses as I was at that time, a military girlfriend. But my blog has always been and still is, about my expat adventures in Singapore. Blogging is a great way to be creative and connect with others I wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to! Oh man, my first post was so not even a proper post! Haha
Sanne: I started my blog as an online diary. In the beginning, I only had two readers: My mom and myself. A little later I connected with Annie from TheLeeDay, who had also just started blogging. At that time, her blog was called MySeoulinBKK, and I loved that name. The first couple of years, I mostly wrote about my everyday life and my trips. I think my blog was more personal than it is today, because when you get more readers, you also start thinking twice about what you’re putting out there. I’ve kept most of my old posts, but they’re in a private, password-protected blog. I haven’t been able to locate my first blog post ever, but here’s a really old one about the day, a sect came and knocked on my door:)
